Executive Head teacher's welcome
Hello and welcome to the Reading Early Years Schools (REYS) website.
The REYS Federation was formed in January 2020 when the Governing bodies of Blagdon Nursery School, Caversham Nursery School and New Bridge Nursery School formalised their soft federation under one new Governing Body with myself as the Executive Head teacher.
As a federation our vision is:
“To provide a secure, nurturing, stimulating environment that challenges our children to reach their full potential and leave as resilient independent learners.”
Our ethos places the child at the centre and we build our curriculums around their interests and needs. Creating moments of awe and wonder as we challenge children and staff to make every moment matter. We value what every child family brings into nursery, creating a rich diverse and unique culture within each school.
We encourage children to be curious of, and respectful of the environment around them, to ask questions, solve problems, work together, share and take turns, to become resilient, brave and have empathy and kindness. We aim to embed the skills children will need to support them through their lives.
Each school has retained its own individual and unique characteristics that embed them to the families and communities they serve and has its own leadership team, whilst being part of a larger federation which I am proud to lead. As a federation, we strive to equip children with the skills and resources they will need to become lifelong learners hence our federation motto ‘Creating Lifelong Learners’.
The benefits of the federation enable us to share the expertise and skills of our staff across all 3 schools, to work together in projects and challenges as well as being able to share the cost of high quality training.
All 3 nurseries are located within the Borough of Reading.
Caversham Nursery School is a purpose built nursery with onsite children’s centre, it includes day-care for children aged 3 months -5 years and is open 51 weeks throughout the year.
New Bridge is also located in Caversham in a Victorian building and offers places for up to 90 children. New Bridge is also home to Snowflakes Social Communication resource a specialist provision for children with a social communication need requiring high level support.
Blagdon Nursery was the first Nursery school to open in Reading in 1937 and has been welcoming large numbers of children aged 2-4 for over 80 years. We have recently opened a 20 place specialist resource for children with language and communication difficulties. Blagdon is housed in the southern end of the borough.
I am fortunate to work with such amazing teams at each school, supported by a board of Governors who share my passion for providing high quality Early Years education for children and their families.
I hope you enjoy exploring our website to find out more about our Nursery schools and the federation.
